Vietnam Styrene Import Guide

Introduction

To help global large petrochemical enterprises, chemical groups, coal chemical enterprises, and bulk chemical traders efficiently expand into the Vietnamese market, CRI releases the “Vietnam Styrene Import Guide 2023-2026.” The guide provides an overview of the Vietnamese styrene industry, import market, and import company information for the period.

The types of importing companies are diverse, including plastic resin manufacturers, home appliance and electronics material manufacturers, synthetic rubber manufacturers, chemical traders. This guide features the top 10 importing companies, including company profiles, contact information, and important information such as import volume, value, price, import resources, and major suppliers for 2023-2026 (including Excel data source).

The publication of the “Vietnam Styrene Import Guide 2023-2026” aims to provide styrene producers with precise customer acquisition channels, helping them expand into the Vietnamese market more efficiently. It also provides valuable decision-making insights for international trading companies and investment institutions, helping them optimize their regional supply chain strategies. This guide will help suppliers stay abreast of market trends in Vietnam, mitigate potential risks and enhance their international competitiveness.

Industry Overview

Styrene constitutes a vital component of the basic petrochemical and plastic raw materials industry, primarily serving downstream sectors such as plastic products, home appliances and electronics, construction materials, and composite materials.

With the development of Vietnam’s manufacturing and plastics industries, the demand for chemical raw materials such as styrene continues to grow.

Currently, Vietnam’s domestic styrene production capacity is relatively limited, and market supply relies primarily on imports. Imported styrene typically enters the Vietnamese market through chemical trading firms or major plastics manufacturers, supplying producers of polystyrene, EPS, and ABS resins.

Styrene consumption in Vietnam is primarily concentrated within the plastics industry. Specifically, polystyrene and expanded polystyrene are widely utilized in food packaging, appliance packaging, and building insulation materials, while ABS engineering plastics are extensively applied in the manufacturing of home appliances, electronic products, and automotive components.

Against the backdrop of the continued development of Vietnam’s electronics manufacturing, home appliance manufacturing, building materials, and plastics processing industries, the market demand for styrene, as an important plastic raw material, is expected to maintain steady growth.

Import Market Overview

Vietnam’s imports of styrene continue to expand rapidly.

According to CRI analysis, due to Vietnam’s relatively limited domestic petrochemical industrial base and insufficient styrene production capacity, domestic market demand for styrene is primarily met through imports.

According to CRI statistics, approximately 34 buyers in Vietnam imported styrene in 2024, totaling US$ 137 million, an increased of 19.2%. In 2025, Vietnam’s total styrene imports reached US$ 134 million, almost the same as in 2024.

Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea are Vietnam’s top three sources for styrene imports.

According to CRI analysis, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand were the top five sources of Vietnam’s styrene imports, accounting for approximately 47.3% , 33.3% , 9.5%, 4.8% and 4.5% of total imports respectively in 2025.

CRI predicts that as Vietnam’s electronics manufacturing, home appliance manufacturing, and plastics processing industries continue to expand, the styrene import market will continue to grow.

Overview of Foreign Investment in Vietnam’s Styrene Industry

Investment Background

Vietnam’s petrochemical industry suffers from a weak foundation. The domestic production capacity of basic chemical raw materials such as styrene is relatively limited, and the market supply mainly relies on imports.

At the same time, Vietnam’s plastic products, home appliances and electronics and building materials industries continue to expand, leading to a growing demand for polystyrene, ABS engineering plastics and EPS insulation materials, which in turn drives the expansion of styrene consumption.

This offers international chemical enterprises significant scope for investment in Vietnam across raw material trading, supply chain services, and the manufacturing of chemical materials.

Investment Advantages

1. Political stability and rapid economic development. The Vietnamese government has strong governing capabilities, consistent policies, and a focus on economic development and improving people’s livelihoods.

2. Relatively low labor costs.

3. Strategically located in the eastern part of the Indochina Peninsula, with a 3,260-kilometer coastline and numerous ports, transportation is convenient.

4. Relatively relaxed policies and regulations provide foreign investors with comprehensive legal protections and generous preferential policies.

5. Vietnam has a high level of openness to the outside world, with 19 free trade agreements signed or in progress. Investors can use platforms such as RCEP and the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area to explore a broader international market.

Investment Regulations

According to the Law on Investment of Vietnam and other relevant regulations, the sale of chemical products in Vietnam is not classified as a sector restricted or prohibited for foreign investment. Foreign-invested enterprises may enter the market by establishing either a wholly foreign-owned enterprise or a joint venture. When engaging in chemical production or trading activities, enterprises are required to complete investment registration and business registration procedures, as well as comply with relevant Vietnamese regulations regarding chemical management, product quality standards, and production safety.
