Industry Overview
Vietnam’s small tractor industry constitutes a vital segment of the agricultural machinery market, primarily catering to small and medium-scale agricultural producers.
Vietnamese agriculture is mainly based on family farming, with farmland generally being small and scattered. Therefore, small tractors with low power and compact bodies are highly suitable for agricultural production.
Small tractors are commonly used for tilling, land preparation, transportation, and agricultural implements, and are widely used in rice-growing areas, vegetable-growing areas, and cash crop-growing areas.
As the rural labor force gradually decreases and the demand for agricultural production efficiency increases, the importance of small tractors in Vietnam’s agricultural mechanization system continues to rise.
Vietnam’s domestic agricultural machinery manufacturing base is relatively limited. It can produce some low-power tractors and related implements, but its overall technology level and production capacity are still relatively limited. Therefore, the market is highly dependent on imported products.
The primary users of small-scale tractors in Vietnam include individual farmers, agricultural cooperatives, agricultural machinery service companies, and certain large-scale agricultural enterprises.
With the gradual development of large-scale agricultural operations and the continuous improvement of the agricultural machinery service system, the application of small tractors in Vietnamese agricultural production is expected to expand further.
Import Market Overview
Vietnam’s demand of small tractors continue to increase rapidly.
According to CRI analysis, With the continuous improvement of agricultural mechanization in Vietnam and the government’s ongoing policies to promote agricultural modernization, the demand for agricultural machinery continues to grow. However, domestic manufacturing capabilities for high-end agricultural machinery remain relatively limited. The market for small-scale tractors has long relied on supplies from imports or foreign-funded brands.
According to CRI statistics, approximately 54 buyers in Vietnam imported small tractors in 2024, totaling US$ 28.98 million, an increased of 75.5%. In 2025, Vietnam’s total small tractors imports reached US$ 21.43 million.
Thailand, Japan and India are Vietnam’s top three sources for small tractors imports.
According to CRI analysis, Thailand, Japan and India were top three sources of Vietnam’s small tractors imports, accounting for approximately 75.5% , 19.0% and 2.2% of total imports respectively in 2025.
CRI predicts that with the improvement of agricultural mechanization, the continued implementation of agricultural machinery subsidy policies, and the continuous improvement of the agricultural machinery service system, Vietnam’s demand for imported small tractors will continue to grow in the future.
Overview of Foreign Investment in Vietnam’s Small Tractors Industry
Investment Background
Agriculture continues to occupy a significant position within Vietnam’s national economy, and the demand for mechanized equipment in agricultural production is steadily rising. Concurrently, the gradual decline in the rural workforce and the escalation of labor costs have led to an increasing reliance on mechanized equipment for agricultural operations.
To enhance production efficiency and drive the modernization of the agricultural sector, the Vietnamese government has actively encouraged the widespread adoption of agricultural machinery in recent years, while also fostering the growth of the agricultural machinery market through strategic development plans and supportive policies.
