Description
ASEAN Commercial Aircraft Industry
Commercial aircraft refers to aircraft used for commercial air transport activities, primarily for carrying passengers, cargo, or performing commercial operations. These include passenger aircraft, cargo aircraft, and some business and regional aircraft.
Commercial aircraft are the core equipment of the modern air transport industry chain, connecting multiple industrial links such as aviation manufacturing, aviation operation, airport services, aircraft maintenance (MRO), aircraft leasing and aviation finance.
The commercial aircraft industry chain is quite long, covering multiple stages such as aircraft design and development, parts manufacturing, complete aircraft assembly, sales and delivery, financial leasing, maintenance and repair, and retirement recycling.
ASEAN, established in 1967, is the most influential regional cooperation organization in Southeast Asia. It currently has 11 member states, covering major Southeast Asian economies, with a total population exceeding 690 million and a combined GDP exceeding US$ 4.0 trillion. ASEAN has evolved from its initial political cooperation organization into a vital regional economic platform encompassing trade, investment, industry, science and technology, energy, finance, and the digital economy.
The ASEAN commercial aircraft market is in a phase of rapid expansion, with market demand mainly driven by growth in air passenger traffic, the development of low-cost carriers, the resumption of international routes, and the upgrading of airline fleets.
According to CRI analysis, Indonesia is one of the largest aviation markets in ASEAN, with substantial domestic aviation demand. Vietnam is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in recent years, currently in a fleet expansion phase, and is expected to become an important market for new aircraft purchases in ASEAN.
According to CRI’s estimates, the ASEAN commercial aircraft market will be worth approximately US$ 40.0 billion in 2026. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is projected to be approximately 5.5% from 2026 to 2030, reaching a market size of approximately US$ 49.5 billion in 2030.
CRI recommends that global commercial aircraft manufacturers, airlines, aircraft leasing companies, and aviation parts suppliers, private equity (PE) funds and venture capital (VC) firms conduct timely market research on the ASEAN region to prepare for their strategic entry into the ASEAN commercial aircraft market.
