Description
ASEAN Bulk Logistics Industry
Bulk logistics refers to the transportation, warehousing, loading and unloading, distribution, and supply chain management services for large quantities of standardized goods such as coal, ore, oil, natural gas, grain, chemical raw materials, and building materials. It is a vital logistics system that supports the development of the energy, industrial manufacturing, agriculture, and basic raw material sectors.
The upstream sector involves suppliers of minerals, energy, agricultural products, and chemical raw materials. The midstream sector consists of logistics service providers responsible for the transportation, transshipment, storage, and supply chain management of bulk commodities. The downstream sector primarily encompasses industries such as steel, construction materials, power generation, chemicals, and food processing.
ASEAN is the most influential regional cooperation organization in Southeast Asia, established in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1967. Currently, ASEAN has 11 member states, a total population of over 690 million, and an economic output exceeding US$ 4.0 trillion. In recent years, the drivers of ASEAN’s economic growth have been gradually shifting from traditional resource exports and low-cost manufacturing toward industrial upgrading and movement up the value chain.
In recent years, the ASEAN bulk logistics market has been driven by the core demand for the transportation of energy, minerals, agricultural and industrial raw materials, as well as by the continuous growth of regional industrialization, resource development and international trade.
According to CRI’s estimates, the ASEAN bulk logistics market will be worth approximately US$ 105 billion in 2026. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is projected to be approximately 5.0% from 2026 to 2030, reaching a market size of approximately US$ 128 billion in 2030.
Factors such as mineral resource development, energy trade support, manufacturing investment and expansion, and the growth of agricultural product exports are expected to drive the sustained growth of the bulk logistics market in ASEAN.
CRI recommends that global bulk logistics companies, energy companies, agricultural companies, private equity (PE) funds and venture capital (VC) firms conduct timely market research on the ASEAN region to prepare for their strategic entry into the ASEAN bulk logistics market.
