Australia, Uruguay and New Zealand are the top three in import origins of beef in China.

There are more imports from Australia and New Zealand because China signed “New Free Trade Agreement” with New Zealand and signed “Free Trade Agreement” with Australia. According to “New Free Trade Agreement”, from the beginning of 2016, the tax rate of beef and its products imported from New Zealand and Australia would be reduced to zero; according to the latest “Free Trade Agreement”, tariffs on imported Australian beef would be removed in the next 9 years and tariffs on imported Australian beef offal would be removed in the next 2 to 7 years. Preferential tariff policies would help New Zealand and Australia beef enter the Chinese market.

Besides, it is estimated that traceability system and inspection and quarantine requirements of American beef will be formulated in 2017. Imported beef will show development patterns. American beef is served mainly with high-end beef or it may impact Australia’s high-end beef market.

Structure of Chinese Imported Beef

From the historical data, two-thirds of imported beef are boneless and one-third is beef with bones. The rest are beef offal and fresh chilled beef. This imported beef structure reflects the market demand for imported beef in China will be relatively stable in the next few years.
