Thailand Fuel Motorcycle Industry

Thailand fuel motorcycle market ranks among the top six in the world in terms of annual sales volume. It is currently a mature market, but there is still room for growth.

Thailand is the world’s fifth largest motorcycle manufacturing base after China (23 million vehicles), India (20 million vehicles), Indonesia (8 million vehicles) and Vietnam (3 million vehicles). Thailand started its first motorcycle manufacturing under the CKD system in 1967. In the 10 years before 1990, Thailand promoted investment in four-stroke engine motorcycles to replace two-stroke engine motorcycles to reduce emission problems, increasing production to 1.75 million units per year.

With the development of the country, motorcycles have become the preferred means of transportation for personal travel. After 1990, with the introduction of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), industrial protection measures were lifted and the Thai motorcycle industry began to export and develop in line with global demand, learning new technologies and adopting the most advanced safety rules and emissions. In Thailand, 87% of households own motorcycles, the highest proportion in Asia.

The Thai fuel motorcycle market is mainly occupied by six brands, namely Honda, Yamaha, Vespa, GP Motor, Suzuki and Kawasaki. According to CRI, among them, Honda’s sales market share has been above 70% for many years, and it has ranked first in the Thai market for many years. Yamaha’s sales market share has always been above 10%, and it has been ranked second in the Thai market for many years. The market sales share of other motorcycle brands in the Thai market has always been less than 5%, and they will not be able to shake the status of Honda and Yamaha in the short term.

From 2018 to 2022, Thailand’s fuel motorcycle production fluctuated. In 2019, Thailand’s motorcycle production volume declined compared with 2018 . In 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19, Thailand’s fuel motorcycle production fell to 1.615 million units, a 17.1% decrease from 2019. From 2021 to 2022, with the recovery of Thailand’s economy, Thailand’s motorcycle production volume will gradually rebound, but it has not yet returned to the level of 2018.

Most motorcycle manufacturing companies are located in the central and eastern regions of Thailand and are close to seaports used for exports, forming motorcycle manufacturer clusters.

2018, Thailand’s domestic sales of fuel motorcycles were approximately 1.79 million units, which dropped to 1.715 million units in 2019 . In 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19, sales volume of fuel motorcycle in Thailand dropped to 1.515 million units. In 2021-2022 , with the gradual recovery of Thailand’s economy, Thailand’s motorcycle sales will gradually recover and return to 1.781 million units in 2022 , which is close to the 2018 level.

As the population grows, consumer spending power increases, new motorcycle registrations increase, and motorcycle manufacturers continue to release new models, CRI predicts that Thailand’s fuel motorcycle market is expected to continue to grow during 2024-2032.

Indonesia Automobile Industry

Indonesia’s automobile market is a vital element of its rapidly expanding economy, driven by a population exceeding 270 million and ongoing urbanization. Economic growth has significantly elevated the purchasing power of the middle class, leading to an increased demand for personal vehicles. Government initiatives, including tax incentives and support for the automotive industry, have played a pivotal role. The market exhibits a diverse landscape with both domestic and international players, responding to preferences shaped by rapid urbanization and challenging traffic conditions.

Indonesia’s vehicle production remained relatively stable at around 1.3 million units in 2018-2019. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in late 2019 led to a significant 46.4% year-on-year decline in production in 2020. Subsequently, production rebounded to over 80% of the pre-pandemic level in 2021 and achieved a five-year peak in 2022.

Key players such as Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi and Suzuki dominate the market, each contributing unique offerings to cater to various consumer needs. Toyota, with its reputation for reliability and an established dealer network, holds a prominent position. Honda excels, particularly in the motorcycle segment, known for reliability and fuel efficiency. Daihatsu, a Toyota subsidiary, offers compact and affordable vehicles in alignment with local preferences. Mitsubishi stands out in the SUV and pickup truck segments.

The advantages of Indonesia’s automobile market include its substantial economic contribution, fostering innovation, and providing increased mobility. However, the market faces challenges such as traffic congestion, environmental concerns, and infrastructure limitations. According to CRI, the rapid increase in vehicles contributes to congestion in major urban centers, impacting travel time and productivity.

Environmental issues, such as air pollution, are exacerbated by the growing number of vehicles, necessitating a shift towards sustainable transportation solutions. Infrastructure challenges persist despite ongoing development, affecting the overall efficiency of the transportation system. Additionally, the dependency on traditional fossil fuels raises concerns about energy security and environmental sustainability, urging the exploration of alternative energy sources.

With the dawn of the electric vehicle era, Indonesia’s automobile market is poised for transformative changes. The global shift towards sustainable transportation aligns with increasing environmental awareness and the need to address climate change concerns. As nations worldwide embrace electric mobility, Indonesia is also witnessing a growing interest in electric vehicles (EVs). This transition is driven by both consumer demand for eco-friendly options and governmental initiatives promoting clean energy.

In this evolving landscape, key players in the Indonesian automobile market are likely to adapt and invest in electric vehicle technologies. The integration of EVs into the market is expected to address environmental concerns associated with traditional fuel-based vehicles. As technological advancements continue, the affordability and accessibility of electric vehicles are anticipated to improve, making them more appealing to a broader consumer base.

Future trends in Indonesia’s automobile market may include increased collaboration between the government and industry players to create a supportive ecosystem for electric vehicles. This could involve the development of charging infrastructure, incentives for EV adoption, and regulatory frameworks to promote sustainable practices. Additionally, innovations in battery technology and a diversified range of electric vehicle models may further drive the market’s transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

In conclusion, Indonesia’s automobile market is on the cusp of significant change with the advent of electric vehicles.

Malaysia Automobile Industry

Since the first domestic automobile “PROTON” was manufactured in 1983, the automotive industry has become one of the major industries supporting the Malaysian economy. Currently, there are more than 20 manufacturing and assembly plants in Malaysia, where passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, etc. are manufactured.

In 2022, the total number of automobiles manufactured and assembled was approximately 702,300 for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, an increase of 41.6% compared to 2021. Passenger car sales increased 41.8% to 641,773 units. Commercial vehicle sales rose 39.9% to 78,885 units. Malaysian automobile production increased 27.2% year-on-year to 68,881 units in December. In Southeast Asia, Malaysia is the third largest after Thailand and Indonesia.

The Malaysian automobile market is a market with great potential, and it has also attracted a large number of investors and foreign brands to join. During the first six months of 2023,auto sales in Malaysia totalled 366,037 units according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA). This represents a 10.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to the same period last year. Perodua is unsurprisingly leading in terms of total vehicle sales in 1H 2023 with 144,690 units, which is enough for a market share of 39.5%.

Both figures are higher than in 1H 2022, when Perodua managed 127,343 deliveries and a market share of 38.4%. Meanwhile, Proton is second place with 76,012 units, up 32.4% from the 57,402 units in 1H 2022. The national carmaker’s market share has also gone up by 3.5% YoY to hit 20.8% in 1H 2023. Coming in third place is Toyota with 48,145 units and a market share of 13.2% – the former is higher than the 45,449 units recorded in 1H 2022, but the latter is actually down by 0.5%.

Malaysia has great advantages in developing the automobile industry and launched Malaysia’s first national automobile policy (NAP2006) in 2006. The policy-driven NAP has played an important role in boosting the Malaysian automotive industry so far. Malaysia has strengths in services related to the mobile industry and the electrical and electronics (E&E) industry. With these advantages of the country, Malaysia has set up three challenging new elements.

In order to continue to develop the automotive industry, which leads the mobility industry, integration with the service industry and the electrical and electronics industry is key according to the vision of NAP2020. Cooperation with the electrical and electronics industry will deepen, as shown in the development roadmap for components important for next-generation vehicles. The future automobile industry will have in-depth cooperation with the power electronics industry from the development stage, which may promote cross-industry integration and lead to substantial changes in the supply chain of the automobile industry.

Nowadays, the development of electric vehicles has become an emerging trend around the world. However, Malaysia’s existing EV infrastructure is still lacking, particularly the lack of EV charging stations.

Currently, Malaysia only has about 600 EV charging stations, which are insufficient to cater to a broad EV market. Barriers to developing the EV ecosystem in Malaysia include high costs and inadequate supporting infrastructure, including component shortages, lack of EV experts and skills, electricity grid challenges, increased demand for lithium-ion batteries, and lack of EV charging standards. Although Malaysia is an upper-middle-income country, and EV owners can also claim tax relief for owning one of those vehicles, EVs remain prohibitively expensive for many people.

Mexico Automobile Industry

Mexico’s automobile industry holds a significant position globally, making substantial contributions to manufacturing and exports. The country’s strategic location, coupled with government incentives like tax breaks and favorable trade agreements, has attracted considerable foreign investment. According to CRI, major players in the industry, including General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan, have established a robust presence, solidifying Mexico’s status as a leading automobile producer.

One of Mexico’s notable advantages lies in its cost competitiveness, driven by lower labor costs and manufacturing expenses. Additionally, participation in trade agreements, particularly the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), provides favorable conditions for both domestic and international automakers. The presence of a skilled and trainable workforce further enhances the efficiency and quality of manufacturing processes.

However, challenges exist within the industry. According to CRI, dependence on international supply chains, particularly from regions like Asia, introduces vulnerabilities during global disruptions. Environmental concerns related to emissions and sustainability practices also accompany the industry’s rapid growth. Furthermore, the sector’s sensitivity to global economic conditions makes it susceptible to economic downturns and fluctuations in consumer demand.

The advent of the electric vehicle (EV) era marks a transformative period in the automotive industry, and Mexico is poised to navigate this shift with both challenges and opportunities. According to CRI, the advantages of electric vehicles bring about significant changes that have noteworthy implications for Mexico’s automotive landscape.

Electric vehicles offer a compelling array of advantages, foremost among them being environmental sustainability. With zero tailpipe emissions, EVs contribute to reducing air pollution and mitigating the automotive industry’s environmental impact. This aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and positions electric vehicles as a crucial component of sustainable transportation solutions.

Moreover, electric vehicles contribute to energy efficiency and resource conservation. Unlike traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs generally have fewer moving parts, resulting in reduced maintenance requirements. The simplicity of electric drivetrains often leads to increased reliability and longevity, translating to lower overall ownership costs for consumers.

The rise of electric vehicles also presents an opportunity for Mexico’s automotive industry to evolve and diversify. According to CRI, as global demand for electric vehicles increases, Mexican manufacturers can position themselves as key players in the production of EV components, such as batteries and electric drivetrains. This shift towards electric mobility aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment in the renewable energy and technology sectors.

However, embracing the electric vehicle era requires strategic planning and adaptation. The traditional automotive supply chain, deeply rooted in internal combustion engines, needs to undergo a transformation to accommodate the production of electric vehicles and their components. This shift presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Mexican manufacturers to invest in research, development, and training to remain competitive in the evolving market.

Sales volume of the Philippine automobile industry increased by 31.3% in 2022, with a total of 352,696 vehicles sold. According to CRI, light commercial vehicles and Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) have the highest growth rates. It is expected that total vehicle sales will increase to 400,000 units by the end of 2023. In 2018, the industry produced 79,763 units.

In 2017, the export value of parts and components was US$3.6 billion, and the import value was US$6.6 billion. New car sales increased slightly by 3.7% in 2019, with sales of 416,637 units. According to CRI, passenger cars accounted for 31% of total vehicle sales in 2019. Commercial vehicles account for the remaining 69%. Demand for commercial vehicles has increased with the launch of the government’s $180 billion “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure initiative.

According to CRI, total motor vehicle sales in the country jumped to 352,596 units in 2022 from 268,488 units in 2021, exceeding the full-year sales forecast of 336,000 units. Currently, Japanese brands hold nearly 80% of the market share, followed by Korean brands due to local manufacturing, brand recognition and parts availability. Chinese brands are slowly gaining market share through economical options.

For the entire Philippine automobile market, it is currently in the initial development stage and needs strong support from many foreign brands. Toyota Motor Philippines contributed the majority of sales at 174,106 units, a 34.3% increase from 2021’s 129,667 units. Toyota Philippines currently holds 49.38% of the total market.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines was the second largest contributor, selling 53,211 vehicles, up 41.7% from 37,548 units in 2021. Rounding out the top three was Ford Motor Company Philippines with 24,710 vehicles sold, a 23.5% increase from 2021’s 20,005 vehicles sold. Motors also account for 7.01% of the local market share. Nissan Philippines ranked fourth with sales of 21,222 units and Suzuki Philippines ranked fifth with sales of 19,942 units.

In this period, cars, sport utility vehicles (SUV), and utility vehicles, made up only 7.5% of registrations, around 896 units.

This is very low compared to sales in countries like Thailand, which reached almost 800,000 units in 2020. Creating an EV ecosystem in the Philippines is also challenging, and consumer uptake cannot increase in the current market environment.

Philippines Steel Industry

Steel has always been an essential raw material in the construction of bridges, buildings, roads and other infrastructure that guided industrialization. The Philippines ranks 20th among major steel importers, according to the World Steel Association. In 2021, the Philippines imported 7.2 million tons of steel from major steel producing countries such as China, India, Japan, and South Korea. Steel is an essential component in ensuring that infrastructure is built and designed to withstand time, weather and stress, so it is important for the Philippines to revive its steel industry to meet the growing demands of urbanization and development.

Among the steel yards mentioned earlier for epidemic prevention, we have to mention Steel Asia. It is the flagship steel company for epidemic prevention and supplies 2 million tons of rebar to the country every year. In 2023, Steel Asia Manufacturing Corp said it had agreed with China’s Bao steel Group, the world’s largest steelmaker, to build a P108 billion integrated steel plant in the defense sector to further expand its infrastructure and production capacity for heavy construction materials.

In the year 2022, as for the Philippines Import Data report, the nation imported iron and steel worth 5.23 billion USD from various nations. The trend of imports of iron and steel is more or less consistent in the past few years with a small decline observed in the year 2020 due to Covid-19 restrictions. In the year 2021, as for the report, the Philippines was the 28th biggest importer of iron and steel in the world. This was accompanied by iron and steel being the 6th most favorite import product of the Philippines.

The Philippines imported iron and steel from almost all the nations across the globe. If we need to pick the top countries from all, then as for the Philippines trade data records, the top 5 nations from whom the Philippines imported iron and steel in 2022 are as followed: China ranks first with a total of 2.18 billion USD, Japan ranks second with 747.28 million USD, Indonesia and Russia rank third and fourth respectively, and Vietnam ranks fifth with 328.43 million USD. In the previous year 2021, nations like China, Vietnam and Indonesia were the fastest growing countries that exported iron and steel to the Philippines.

As the Philippines is one of the most emerging and rapidly growing nations in the world, it is estimated that the demand for iron and steel would grow in the nation in the coming time. We can forecast this as being a developing nation, development and construction activities in the Philippines will keep on happening on a frequent basis for which iron and steel are needed. The domestic production, as well as international imports of these products, would rise which will create an impact on the Philippines imports data values.

Mexico Steel Industry

Mexico plays a significant role in the global steel industry, standing as the second-largest steel producer in Latin America and holding a position among the top 15 steel-producing nations worldwide.

As of 2021, the iron and steel sector contributed approximately 97 billion Mexican pesos to Mexico’s real gross domestic product (GDP).

In 2022, the Mexican steel industry continued to show an improvement with an growth of 5.9% and has an annual steel production about 19.6 million tonnes mainly using the electric arc furnace (EAF) production process. According to CRI, among the key players shaping this thriving industry are prominent companies such as Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), Ternium México, DEACERO, Grupo Simec, and ArcelorMittal Las Truchas. Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) stands out as the largest steel producer in Mexico, boasting an extensive industrial chain that spans from iron ore mining and coal mining to the production of diverse steel products. This industry leader has a significant impact on Mexico’s steel landscape, with a robust steel mill chain. Operating on a sprawling 1,200-hectare facility, AHMSA possesses two main production plants with a combined capacity of 5.5 million tons per year.

Examining the data presented in Figures 5 and 6 reveals a notable disparity in Mexico’s steel trade dynamics, particularly when contrasting the export and import of finished steel. Notably, Mexico faces a disadvantage in the export of finished steel. According to CRI, the Steel sector import penetration Index, computed based on data provided by Mexico’s national steel association, Canacero, has consistently hovered around 40% since the fourth quarter of 2018.

Projections for the upcoming years indicate a positive trajectory for the Mexican steel industry. According to CRI, apparent steel consumption (ASC) is anticipated to witness a year-on-year increase of 2-3%, reaching 25 million tonnes in 2022. The ambitious goal is for finished steel exports to surge to nearly 5.1 million tonnes by the close of 2023, reflecting an impressive 24% year-on-year growth. Despite this optimistic outlook, imports are expected to maintain stability at the 11.7 million tons level seen in 2021.

While these developments are poised to contribute to a reduction in the short-term trade deficit, currently standing at 6.6 million tons, and subsequently lowering the Steel sector import penetration Index, it’s crucial to note that Mexico’s steel industry as a whole still contends with a substantial trade deficit, Mexico’s steel industry has not achieved self-sufficiency as of yet.

Also, Mexico may not be widely regarded as abundantly endowed with steel raw materials, the country does possess certain natural resources that play a role in its steel production. In 2020, the production of iron ore in Mexico amounted to 11.4 million tonnes, complemented by an import volume of 1.5 million tonnes. Despite not being entirely self-sufficient in its raw material supply, Mexico maintains a notable steel industry, relying on both domestic production and imported resources to meet its manufacturing needs.

What’s more, Mexico’s steel industry’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability has yielded tangible results, positioning the country as a leader in responsible and eco-friendly steel production. This commitment is not just rhetoric but is evident in the industry’s active engagement in projects that align with the global trend of seeking eco-friendly solutions for both processes and products. The industry’s dedication extends beyond mere awareness to the implementation of various initiatives throughout Mexico, contributing significantly to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious steel sector.

Furthermore, the focus on recycling within the Mexican steel sector adds another layer to its commitment to sustainability. The increasing utilization of scrap steel among local producers, coupled with some sourcing products from the USA and Europe, showcases a practical implementation of eco-friendly practices. Leveraging the benefits of free trade agreements, this not only promotes sustainable practices but also underscores the industry’s commitment to circular economy principles.

The cause-and-effect relationship becomes evident when considering the exceptional energy efficiency achievements of Mexico’s steel industry. With a consumption of only 13.3 GJ of energy per tonne of steel produced—38% less than the global average—the industry not only sets itself apart but positions the country as a frontrunner in the responsible and sustainable use of energy. This outstanding production efficiency is complemented by the sector’s excellence in carbon emissions reduction, emitting only 1.18 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of steel—a 38% decrease compared to the worldwide average.

Malaysia Steel Industry

Malaysia occupies an indispensable part of the ASEAN economy, with a total land area of 330,803 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Malaysia’s population is approximately 32.6 million people.

The steel industry in Malaysia can be categorically subdivided into two main segments, namely the long products and the flat products. Malaysia’s steel production capacity is approximately 16.1 million tons. According to CRI, at present, the bulk of the Malaysian steel is produced using the electric-arc-furnace (EAF) route, melting scrap iron, or scrap-substitutes like DRI and HBI to produce molten steel. The top three steel companies in Malaysia are Southern Steel Group, Prestar Resources Berhad, Malaysia Steel Works (KL) Bhd.

Scrap, the main ingredient in steel production, is mainly imported from countries such as the European Union and the United States, as domestic supplies are insufficient to meet the needs of local industry. Currently, only Perwaja Steel and Amsteel Mills produce DRI and HBI at their plants in Kemaman and Labuan respectively. Since DRI and HBI command a higher premium than scrap due to their “clean” content, a large portion is exported to countries such as Vietnam, South Korea, China and Taiwan. Malaysia’s iron & steel import in March 2022 grew by 21.6 percent to RM3.1 billion from RM2.6 billion in March 2021.

In recent years, the import volume of the Malaysian steel industry has remained with slight fluctuations. It remained at around 31 billion Malaysian ringgit in 2018 and 2019. There has been a considerable decline in 2020, falling to 24.3 billion Malaysian ringgit, most likely due to the impact of the new coronavirus There are no import channels for the impact. By 2021 and 2022, the number of imported steel products in Malaysia has increased significantly to more than 33 billion Malaysian ringgit. According to CRI, this shows that the current dependence on imported steel in the Malaysian market is gradually increasing.

Looking at the total export value of the steel industry, it is found that the export value of the steel industry is increasing year by year. It has climbed from 15503.92 million Malaysian Ringgit at the beginning to 33354.39 million Malaysian Ringgit today. This shows that Malaysia’s steel industry is in a state of continuous development and that Malaysia’s steel industry is developing rapidly.

In 2023 and 2024, considering that total steel demand will grow by 4.1%, but with the increase in steel production capacity, actual demand growth is expected to be 3.6% in 2023 and 4.8% in 2024, and exports are expected to increase further.

Faced with multiple crises such as the epidemic, geopolitical tensions and wars, financial instability and climate change, the future of the steel market industry in Malaysia and globally is not optimistic. According to CRI, as China is Malaysia’s largest import and export trading country, but China currently has chronic overcapacity, Malaysian steel manufacturers are unlikely to benefit from the expected increase in domestic steel consumption. For the Malaysian steel industry to have a sustainable future, the industry and the government must jointly address three major challenges, namely overcapacity in construction steel, green transformation and financing transformation.

Indonesia Steel Industry

Indonesia stands as the foremost economy in Southeast Asia and holds the position of the largest steel producer in the region. As of 2022, Indonesia ranks 16th globally in terms of steel production.

In 2021, Indonesia steel industry showcased remarkable resilience and growth, defying the challenges posed by the ongoing global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In the third quarter of the year, the sector expanded by an impressive 9.82%, as reported by the Indonesian government’s statistics office (BPS), attributing this positive trajectory to the export of steel products.

During November 2021, the export value of steel products reached an impressive $19.6 billion, generating a significant profit of $6.1 billion. According to CRI, the pivotal role of government regulations in steering the development of Indonesia’s steel sector was emphasized by Budi Susanto, Metal sector Director of the General Directorate of Metals, Machinery, Transport Equipment, and Electronics Industry (ILMATE), representing the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperina).

Susanto highlighted the effectiveness of the government’s control efforts, introducing the concept of “smart supply and demand” and orchestrating a strategic shift from the upstream to downstream in the iron and steel industry. The surge was further fueled by the growing demand for steel, bolstered by the automotive industry’s PPnBM policy, which escalated to 27% in the third quarter of 2021.

According to the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA), the steel sector witnessed substantial investments of nearly USD 12 billion in 2021, with projections indicating a further increase to USD 15.2 billion or IDR 215 trillion in 2022. According to CRI this growth is intricately tied to the rising domestic steel demand and a surge in exports, particularly in the downstream steel sector.

However, challenges persist in the upstream business, notably in carbon steel, which is yet to meet Indonesia’s domestic demand. Steel imports, as reported by the Government Bureau of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), experienced a 23% increase from 3.9 million tons in 2020 to 4.8 million tons in 2021. While some argue that using 2020 statistics may be futile given the severe impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, a comparison with 2019 statistics reveals a noteworthy 31% decrease in steel imports.

The rise in steel imports is further attributed to unfair trade practices such as dumping and tariff manipulations, with Cold Rolled Coil (CRC) products experiencing a substantial 70% increase in 2021. Meanwhile, other items, including Hot Rolled Coil (HRC), witnessed a 16% increase, and Coated Sheet steel products saw an 18% rise.

Despite various government initiatives to limit imports, including import substitution programs, the P3DN program promoting domestic product use, mandatory SNI for quality assurance, and incentives for increasing investments in the metals sector, Indonesia continues to import carbon steel from international steel-exporting countries. According to CRI, steel imports are anticipated to become Indonesia’s second-largest non-oil and gas import commodity.

Looking ahead, steel manufacturers in Indonesia anticipate the need for tightened import licenses, particularly for steel goods that can be produced domestically. Concurrently, according to BPS-Statistics Indonesia, steel products emerged as the third-largest export commodity in Indonesia from 2020 to 2022, surpassing various other significant export products and showcasing the industry’s growing prominence in contributing to Indonesia’s economic growth. According to CRI, this data underscores the steel sector’s resilience and increasing significance on the global stage, emphasizing its pivotal role in Indonesia’s economic development.
