According to CRI’s analysis, in recent years, the growth rate of China’s cotton spinning industry is slowing down and labor costs, land rent and the prices of other production factors are rising in China, which increases the costs of cotton planting and decreases the profits and area of cotton planting. Meanwhile, cotton production capacity is being transferred to Xinjiang at a lower cost from other parts of China.

In 2020, the cotton planting area in China was about 3.168 million hectares, down 5.10% YOY. China is about to run out of cotton reserves and face a short supply of cotton. However, the growth of cotton planting areas is restricted by land policies such as returning farmland to forest. In particular, because of the rising labor costs of cotton planting, cotton fields in some regions have been turned into fields of other crops.

According to CRI’s analysis, China’s cotton production in 2020 was about 5.9105 million tons, up 0.36% YOY. However, it was still much lower than the production of 7.6 million tons in 2008. In 2020, China imported 2.16 million tons of cotton, up 16.8 % YOY. In the same year, China’s cotton imports increased significantly mainly because imported cotton had a certain price advantage. In this year, China’s cotton imports showed a rising tendency.

In the earlier stage, cotton imports continued to decline due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. According to customs statistics, China imported 900,000 tons of cotton from January to June of 2020, down 23.7% YOY.

In the later stage, with the recovery of textile production and consumer demand, imports grew faster. From July to December of 2020, China imported 1.26 million tons of cotton, an increase of 88.1% YOY. For the whole year of 2020, China imported a total of 2.16 million tons of cotton, up 16.8% YOY.

The Chinese government introduces a quota administration for cotton import, and the tariff rate on cotton in quota is only 1%. The tariff rates on cotton imports out of the tariff rate quota range from 40% to 125%, depending on the sources and varieties of cotton.

With the escalation of the Sino-U.S. trade war, on Jun. 16, 2018, China’s State Council decided to place a 25% tariff on 659 U.S. products worth about USD 50 billion. The decision applied to USD 34 billion of U.S. exports from Jul. 6, 2018, including agricultural products, automobiles and aquatic products, which involved uncombed cotton and cotton linters. The increase in tariff immediately affected the export of U.S. cotton to China.

Since Jun. 2018, Chinese enterprises have significantly reduced U.S. cotton orders, and Brazil has replaced China as the largest destination of U.S. cotton exports. Overall, China imported about 360,000 tons of cotton from the U.S., while the U.S. exported 3.56 million tons of cotton in 2020. China’s cotton imports from the U.S. took up a small proportion of U.S. cotton exports.

Therefore, fewer orders from China had a limited impact on the export of U.S. cotton. However, in 2017, the cotton imported from the U.S. accounted for more than 40% of China’s cotton imports. In this context, the Sino-U.S. war had a great impact on cotton imports in China.

According to CRI, from 2022 to 2026, the growth rate of China’s cotton spinning industry will continue to slow down. However, the domestic demand for cotton textiles will keep rising, and a large number of cotton textiles will be exported as usual because of the price advantage. Therefore, the overall demand for cotton in China is expected to increase gradually from 2022 to 2026.

Restricted by production factors such as land rent and labor costs, cotton output in China can hardly rise and will even fall from 2022 to 2026. Therefore, the import volume of cotton in China will keep rising during this period.

Its clinical trials are already underway for a variety of cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer, soft tissue sarcoma, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, medullary thyroid cancer, differentiated thyroid cancer, and esophageal squamous cancer.

Anlotinib hydrochloride was approved for marketing under the trade name FuKeWei® by the NMPA on May 9, 2018 for the third-line treatment of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The fast time to market of anlotinib hydrochloride was made possible by the Chinese government’s support for accelerated evaluation and approval of innovative drugs.

According to CRI’s market research, as of September 2021, anlotinib has been approved in China for four indications: (1) advanced NSCLC (2) soft tissue sarcomas (3) small cell lung cancer (4) advanced or metastatic medullary thyroid cancer.

In 2020, there were 4.57 million new cancer cases in China, 820,000 of which were lung cancer cases. Lung cancer is mainly divided into small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and the latter accounts for about 80-85% among all patients with lung cancer, most of which are diagnosed as locally advanced or metastatic disease.

Soft tissue sarcomas are a group of rare cancers with a low incidence that account for only 1% of all malignancies. But it is characterized by high evolution possibility, poor prognosis, high insidiousness, and inconspicuous early symptoms, making it extremely difficult to treat clinically.

According to CRI’s estimation, there were about 220,000 new cases of thyroid cancer in China in 2020, among which medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) accounts for about 2%-4%. MTC is more likely to have malignant evolution and distant metastasis, and the treatment may not impose good effects for patients with advanced stage.

According to CRI’s market research, the sales value of anlotinib in the Chinese market was approximately CNY922 million (USD142 million) in 2020, with a CAGR of 444% from 2018 to 2020. Generic drugs of anlotinib from other Chinese pharmaceutical companies are expected to be on the market around 2024, so China’s anlotinib market will remain fully occupied by Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical’s product till 2025.

CRI expects that China’s anlotinib market will continue to grow from 2021 to 2025 as new cancer cases are expected to increase in China due to environmental pollution and lifestyle changes.

Consumption of automotive wiring harness per automobile rises with the advancement of automobile electronic technology. According to CRI’s market research, in 2010, each automobile was assembled with on average fewer than 70 sets of wiring harness in China.

The production volume of new energy vehicles reached 1.456 million in 2020, an increase of over 17.3% YOY.

New energy vehicles became one of the major driving forces in the future development of the automotive wiring harness industry in China. Meanwhile, China exports a large amount of automotive wiring harnesses every year, occupying an important position in the global automotive wiring harness market.

Prostate cancer is one of the common malignant tumors in men. With the development of the economy, factors like increasing environmental pollution, changing lifestyle, and the aging population has caused an increase in the incidence of prostate cancer in China. According to incomplete statistics, in 2020, there were 120,000 new cases of prostate cancer in China, and the number is increasing by over 10% annually.

Due to the relatively high prices of drugs like abiraterone, the first-generation AR (androgen receptor) inhibitors and chemotherapy are still the main treatment drugs for prostate cancer in China.

Bicalutamide is one of the anti-androgen drugs with the highest sales value in the world. With its good tolerability, few side effects and high bioavailability, it is the first-line drug for palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer and shows strong pharmacological advantages after surgical castration.

Bicalutamide, a non-steroidal androgen antagonist, can compete with androgens for androgen receptors, blocking cellular uptake of androgens and inhibiting the binding of androgens to target organs, thus inhibiting tumor cell growth. Bicalutamide is mostly used in the combination therapy of advanced prostate cancer.

Bicalutamide, originally developed by AstraZeneca, was first marketed in the UK in 1995 under the brand name Casodex^®. China approved the import of bicalutamide tablets under the same brand name in 1999, and later generic drugs by Chinese companies have also been on the market.

According to CRI’s market research, the sales value of bicalutamide in the Chinese market increased year by year from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, which affected the proper functioning of Chinese healthcare institutions, the sales value of China’s bicalutamide market declined to approximately CNY404 million (USD62.1 million), with a CAGR of about 2.2% from 2016 to 2020.

Although several generic drugs from local companies have been launched in the Chinese market and are cheaper than Casodex, AstraZeneca‘s Casodex still accounted for more than 70% share of China’s bicalutamide market in 2020 in terms of sales value.

But its market share is now declining. Local companies with a relatively high share in China’s bicalutamide market are Shanxi Zhendong Pharmaceutical, Shanghai Fosun Zhaohui Pharmaceutical, Shanghai Fudan Fuhua Pharmaceutical, and Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical.

According to CRI’s analysis, by the end of 2020, in the boiler industry, there were more than 300 boiler manufacturers in China, and the average annual production volume was less than 2,000 evaporation tons. China’s boiler industry is troubled by a low market concentration ratio, outdated technologies, and low gross profit margins.

China-made boilers are dominated by industrial boilers. In industrial production, industrial boilers are essential thermal power equipment. They are classified into coal-fired steam boilers, oil and gas-fired steam boilers, thermal oil furnaces, and hot-blast stoves, and are applied in power generation, industrial production, light industry, textiles, metallurgy, etc.

From 2010 to 2020, China’s industrial boiler production fluctuated, increasing from 336,382 evaporation tons in 2010 to 512,736 evaporation tons in 2013, dropping back to 322,293 evaporation tons in 2018, and then increasing to 439,112 evaporation tons in 2020, with a CAGR of about 2.7% from 2010 to 2020.

As coal-fired boilers cost much less than natural gas boilers, they dominate China’s industrial boiler market. For a long time to come, they will continue to be the mainstream of industrial boilers in China, and most of them will be medium and heavy-duty ones.

Coal-fired boilers cause serious environmental pollution. As the energy supply structure changes and energy conservation and environmental protection requirements become more stringent, small coal-fired industrial boilers will be phased out, and the high-efficiency, energy-saving and low-pollution industrial boilers that use clean fuels and clean combustion technologies will become a development trend.

As China’s environmental protection policies have become stricter in recent years, the Chinese government is promoting the transformation and upgrade of industrial boiler manufacturers.

In Jul. 2016, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued The Plan for Industrial Application of Energy Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Industrial Boilers to transform and upgrade the industrial boiler industry, save energy, reduce emissions and improve the environment.

The Plan required that by the end of 2020, some production bases of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly industrial boilers should have been built, and energy-efficient and environmentally friendly industrial boilers should take up a market share of more than 60% with a production volume of 1 million evaporation tons.

The Opinions on the Ecological and Environmental Protection to Win the Fight in Pollution Prevention and Control clearly put forward to vigorously promote the management of bulk coal and reduction in coal consumption by adopting other alternatives. The Opinions required that by 2020, coal-fired boilers below 35 evaporation tons per hour should be phased out in key areas; clean and efficient coal-fired boilers should be promoted.

As the Chinese government strengthens ecological protection and management, many industrial boiler manufacturers are upgrading their boilers, to meet the standards of energy conservation and environmental protection.

According to CRI, it is expected that coal-fired industrial boilers will remain the dominant product of industrial boilers for a considerable period of time in the future.

However, as it will cause serious pollution to the environment, with the continuous change of energy supply structure and the increasingly strict requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection, natural gas development and application will also enter a high-speed development stage.

Therefore, high-efficiency, energy-saving and low-pollution industrial boilers using clean fuel and related technologies will be the development trend.

Many local governments of China have also taken measures to control the pollutant discharge of industrial enterprises. Replacing coal-fired boilers with natural gas boilers or electric boilers has become a hot trend. In cities that have the pipelines for the West-East Gas Transmission Project and natural gas import and port cities able to import liquefied gas and their surrounding areas, gas-fired boilers have huge growth potential.

Supported and encouraged by the Chinese government, the gas-fired boiler industry will have a bright prospect. Environmentally friendly gas-fired boilers will certainly replace coal-fired boilers to become the mainstream products in China’s boiler market.

Edible vegetable oil refers to vegetable oil made from edible vegetable oilseeds or vegetable crude oil. Among them, soybean, rapeseed, palm and peanut oil are the four major edible vegetable oil consumption types in China.

According to CRI’s analysis, the consumption of these four types accounts for about 90% of China’s edible vegetable oil consumption. In terms of market supply structure, in recent years, soybean oil has become the most dominant vegetable oil supplied domestically, due to the low price of imported soybeans and large crushing profits, with a share of 43%; followed by rapeseed oil, with a share of 22%.

The production of edible vegetable oil in China declined from 59.318 million tons in 2016 to 46.254 million tons in 2019 in successive years, and the production rebounded to 49.18 million tons in 2020, with a CAGR of -4.58%.

According to CRI’s analysis, edible vegetable oil in China is mainly used in the food processing industry, food service industry and other industries closely related to the residents’ diet, and the consumer groups are mainly individual (household) consumers, food processors and caterers, but different types of edible vegetable oil also have different consumer groups.

China’s apparent consumption of edible vegetable oil witnessed a continuous decline from 2016 to 2018 before the apparent demand for edible vegetable oil had shown modest growth since 2018.

In terms of market segments, consumption in rapeseed and soybean oil is larger and maintains an overall growth trend. In 2020, China’s consumption of peanut, rapeseed and soybean oil was 3.175 million tons, 15.130 million tons, and 18.596 million tons respectively.

China’s domestic edible vegetable oil production cannot fully address the demand for the domestic market. Therefore, Chinese companies will meet the market need by edible oil import. China’s edible vegetable oil import volume continued to rise from 5.54 million tons in 2016 to 9.834 million tons in 2020, with a CAGR of 15.43%.

In 2021, from January to August, China imported 8.217 million tons of edible vegetable oil, up 14.4% YOY, and the import value was USD 8.09 billion, up 54.2% YOY.

CRI expects that China will continue to import large quantities of edible oil each year from 2022 to 2030.

Radiotherapy can be used alone or in combination with other treatments (systemic therapy, surgery, etc.) to cure or stabilize cancer. Chemotherapy, on the other hand, uses anti-cancer drugs, and it is one of the most important methods of treating tumors at the current stage. The clinic uses of both radiotherapy and chemotherapy will cause different degrees of toxic side effects, which will also kill normal cells.

In response to those side effects of chemotherapy, the dose of chemotherapy drugs is usually reduced. G-CSF is mainly used for the prevention and treatment of leukopenia caused by radiotherapy or chemotherapy, the treatment of myelopoietic dysfunction and myelodysplastic syndrome, and the prevention of potential infectious complications of leukopenia. G-CSF currently available on the market includes filgrastim, pegfilgrastim, and mecapegfilgrastim.

According to CRI’s market research, Amgen launched Neupogen (filgrastim), the world’s first recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, on February 20, 1991, which was quickly and widely accepted clinically, and its sales value have remained stable at more than USD1 billion for the last two decades.
