Soybeans are important raw materials of common edible oil and feed material of breeding industry in China. China has huge demand on Soybeans while the domestic supply could not meet the consumption. In 2019, China’s Soybean consumption was 106.50 million tons, domestic production was 18.10 million tons and import volume was 88.51 million tons, which showed very high dependence on import soybeans. Thus, China allowed more countries, such as Bolivia, Russia and Benin to export soybeans that meet the requirements.
According to CRI, soybeans are mainly produced in the Northeast and North China regions. From 2015 to 2019, the sown area of soybeans in China increased from 6.83 million hectares to 9.34 million hectares, and the production of soybeans rose from 12.37 million tons in 2015 to 18.10 million tons in 2019. Import volume went up from 81.69 million tons in 2015 to 88.51 million tons in 2019. Import soybeans always have competitive advantage, since the price of imported soybeans is always lower than that of domestic soybeans.
According to CRI, imported soybeans in China include soybeans for cultivation, black soybeans, green soybeans, yellow soybeans, and other soybeans not for cultivation, most of them came from Brazil and the USA from 2017 to April 2020.
According to CRI, as for major import sources of soybeans in the future, it is expected to be Brazil, the USA and Argentina. According to CRI, the demand on soybeans is estimated to be relatively low in 2020 because of COVID-19, and then reach 124 million tons by 2024. The gap between supply and demand could be around 94 million tons in 2024, worth the value that exceed USD 40 million.

According to CRI, China is the world’s fifth largest wine consumer. Grape wine is the second largest alcoholic beverage in the world after beer and has a long history in China, but it is relatively inferior to other liquors.
There are largely low-end domestic wine products in China’s wine market, and demand for high-end grape wine relies on import.
According to CRI, the production of Chinese-made wine has been declining year by year since 2015. Besides, due to the shortcomings of high planting cost, backward mode and low efficiency, domestic grape wine has disadvantages in the competition with imported grapes.
The youth group is the major consumer of wine.
China’s total grape wine consumption is not low, but per capita consumption is well below the world average. Thus, China’s grape wine per capita consumption is expected to rise in the future.
Total grape wine import volume decreased year by year, from 737.04 million liters in 2017 to 612.49 million liters in 2019, but the import value in 2018 was higher than that in 2017, and the average price of imported grape wine in 2019 was USD 3.97 per liter, higher than that USD 3.70 per liter in 2017. It can be seen that Chinese consumers began to pay more attention to quality than quantity for grape wine.
In the first five months of 2020, affected by the epidemic situation, the import volume of wine decreased by 32.20% in the same period, and the price also declined.
Still grape wine occupied more share of China’s total imports, but decreased year on year. On the contrast, import volume of sparkling grape wine was relatively low, however showed an increasing trend. France, Australia, and Chile are major sources of China’s grape wine imports.
Compared with European industrial powers, the development of China’s wine industry is relatively late. The development of wine market is limited by the lack of efficient product promotion channels and narrow audience range.
According to CRI, considering many factors, it is estimated that after the end of the epidemic in 2020, the import volume of wine will rise in 2021, and then decrease in the total value. However, the proportion of imported high-grade wine will rise, and it will still maintain a large market in the total amount, with a value of about 1.80 billion USD by 2024. Among all types of grape wine, sparkling grape wine imports is expected to keep increasing, while other still grape wine imports are estimated to decrease.

Description
Salmon is the common name for several species of ray-finned fish in the family Salmonidae.
With high nutrition, salmon becomes more and more common in Chinese people’s life. 75% of salmon in China is used in restaurants and hotels.
According to CRI, in terms of global consumption of salmon, China has a large share. From 2015 to 2018, China’s salmon consumption growth rate was the second in the world. Specifically, the growth of frozen market is relatively stable, while the growth of fresh market is very fast.
According to CRI, domestic salmon consumption demand is not small, but domestic salmon is relatively difficult to seize the market, because the cost of breeding salmon in China is high, and the quality is not better than imported salmon. Thus, more than 60% of salmon consumption in China relies on imports.
According to CRI, in 2019, China imported 89,721 tons of salmon, worth USD 782.67 million, with the average price USD 8,723 per ton.
Norwegian salmon and Chilean salmon are the two major products in China’s salmon market.
China’s per capita consumption of salmon is currently only 60 grams per year, while Europe’s consumption is about 2 kg, which means that the consumption market of salmon in China is far from saturation, and it still has great development potential.
Despite the global supply chain disruption caused by the COVID-19, salmon was relatively less affected because fish cannot be infected with the coronavirus.
However, the report about new outbreak in Beijing still caused panic among some Chinese consumers and reduced some purchase of salmon.
According to CRI, it is expected that the salmon import in 2020 would be negatively affected, and the original growth rate would be restored after 2021. By 2024, it is estimated that China’s salmon import volume would reach 208.80 kilo tons, about USD 1,841 million.
Moreover, the main categories of salmon imported in China would be fresh or chilled salmon, followed by frozen salmon, and a small number of prepared salmon and smoked salmon.
According to CRI, the main sources of imports would be Chile, Norway, Faroe and other countries, among which the fresh salmon is expected to mainly come from Norway and Chile, while the frozen salmon is expected to mainly come from Chile.

According to CRI, with the development of feed and beer industries, China has a large consumption scale of barley, while the domestic supply was only around 1 million tons per year, which leads to high import dependence.
The annual production of barley was decreasing year by year, and even only 956.50 kilotons in 2018. The main reasons are that the cultivated land decreased, and farmers turned to plant other higher value grain, such as wheat.
Chinese farmers do not have large-scale planting and unified field management as foreign farmers, thus imported barley has obvious price advantage over domestic barley.
According to CRI, in 2019, China imported 5.93 million tons of barley, worth USD 1.56 billion.
From 2017 to April 2020, Australia was the largest source of barley imports in China. At least half of Australia’s annual barley exported to China, but the proportion of Australian barley keep decreasing year by year. Moreover, in 2020, the Ministry of Commerce issued announcement to increase tariffs on Australian barley due to anti-dumping.
Out of protecting cultivated land, barley planting area and production is estimated to decrease in the future.
According to CRI, from 2017 to 2019, the export volume increased from 289.59 million to 315.58 million. Affected by the COVID-19 from January to April 2020, the number of tire exports is relatively small, only 84.71 million, down by 13.45 million, or 13.70% compared to the same period in 2019.
Although the volume of passenger car tires exports is more than that of commercial car tires, the amount of commercial car tires exports is higher. In 2019, the export volume of passenger car tires was 223.23 million, the value was USD 5,569.82 million, while the volume of commercial vehicle tires was 92.36 million, worth USD 7,350.04 million.
The export destinations of passenger car tires are always relatively scattered, with only the UK keeping ranking the first, accounting for 8-10% of the total volume. While commercial vehicle tires were mainly exported to the United States. Even in the face of the Sino-U.S. trade war and epidemic situation, the United States was still the first export destination, accounting for 14-26% of the total volume.
China government encourages enterprises to export tires, while lots of other countries have raised tariffs on Chinese tires. Considering pandemic and other factors, the export is estimated to be relatively low in 2020 and gradually recovered after 2021.
According to CRI, the USA, the UK and Mexico are expected to be the top three export destinations in next five years, followed by Germany, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Globally, as of 13 July 2020, there have been 13,235,751 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 575,525 deaths.
Since COVID-19 is spreading over 100 countries, there are more than 13 million confirmed cases and more than 500,000 deaths, disposable medical masks are in shortage. Although many enterprises doubled their production capacities, there is still a big gap between supply and demand.
The imports of face masks rose by 692.16%, while the exports declined by 12.42% in the first quarter of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019 in China. Meanwhile, the price of N95 respirators and surgical masks has also surged dramatically.
According to CRI, during the epidemic, the largest source of masks imported to China was South Korea, accounting for 22.08%. And the main destination of Chinese face mask exports is the United States, which accounts for 36.64%
According to CRI, the major brand owners of face masks can be divided by three types: international brands of N95 respirators, other surgical masks brands, and OEM enterprises.

CRI estimates that global market scale of medical masks would be approximately USD 3 billion, especially market of N95 masks would be at least USD 2 billion in next five years. Moreover, due to shortage of production capacity in other countries, China would be the main producer of medical face masks over the world by the end of 2020. However, with the expansion of production capacity in other countries, the global dependence on Chinese face masks will gradually decline in next years.
