Polyester staple fiber is a fiber obtained by re-spinning polyester into bundles and cutting it off, which is one of the important categories of synthetic fibers. Polyester staple fiber is mainly used in cotton spinning industry, which can be spun alone or blended with other fibers as raw material for garment weaving, home furnishing fabric, packaging step, filling material and insulation material.

With the global economic development, consumers’ standard of living improved, the apparel market demand growth, promoting the development of polyester staple fiber market.

China is one of the major producers and exporters of polyester staple fiber worldwide. According to CRI analysis, in 2021, China exported 929,100 tons of polyester staple fiber, up 16.77% year-on-year, and the export value was US$951 million, up 37.59% year-on-year.

From January to November 2022, China exported 908,500 tons of polyester staple fiber, up 8.40% year-on-year, and the export value was US$1,017 million, up 19.85% year-on-year.

In 2021, China exported polyester staple fiber to more than one hundred and thirty countries and regions around the world. CRI analysis, by export volume, Vietnam, Pakistan, the United States, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Brazil, the Russian Federation, India, Israel and Peru are the main export destinations of polyester staple fiber in China.

Among them, Vietnam is the largest destination for China’s polyester staple fiber exports. In 2021, China exported 169,200 tons of polyester staple fiber to Vietnam, accounting for 18.21% of the total export volume of polyester staple fiber that year, and the export value was US$181 million, accounting for 19.01% of the total export value.

China has a well-developed textile industry and is a major global producer and exporter of textile raw materials. CRI expects that in recent years there has been a trend for the Chinese textile and apparel industry to shift its industry to Vietnam, Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.

Since the textile industry chain in these countries is not well developed, they still need to import textile raw materials, including polyester staple fiber, from mainland China every year. The global market size of polyester staple fiber is expected to continue to grow in 2023-2032, which will help promote the growth of China’s polyester staple fiber export volume.
