The consumer market for edible bird’s nests is mainly concentrated in Asia. China is the world’s largest consumer market for edible bird’s nests. Wine not only has a long history, but also occupies an important position in culture, catering and social activities around the world.

Wine is divided into different types according to factors such as brewing process, grape variety, fermentation method, etc. Common wine varieties include red wine, white wine, rosé wine and sparkling wine. Red wine is made from red or black grapes, usually with a dark red or purple color and a strong taste. Sparkling wine refers to wine containing bubbles, which are usually produced by a specific brewing process (such as the Champagne method). The most famous sparkling wine is Champagne, which is a high-quality sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France.

The world’s major wine producing areas are distributed in France, Italy, Spain, the United States, Australia, Argentina and other countries. According to CRI analysis, these countries are famous for their unique terroir conditions, long winemaking history and excellent wine quality.

The Mexican wine market has shown a significant growth trend in recent years, with its demand and consumption increasing. According to CRI analysis, with the development of the Mexican economy, the size of the Mexican wine market continues to grow. With the promotion of wine culture and the popularity of wine tasting activities, more and more Mexican consumers are paying attention to buying wine.

The production of Mexican wine is mainly concentrated in several specific regions, which have climate and soil conditions suitable for grape cultivation. The main wine producing areas in Mexico are Baja California, especially Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe in the state.

The continuous development of Mexican grape cultivation methods, the combination of traditional and modern technology, has greatly increased the production of Mexican wine year by year. Although the production of local wine in Mexico has increased year by year, it is far from meeting the domestic wine consumption demand, especially high-end wine. Therefore, the Mexican wine market still relies heavily on imported products.

According to CRI data, the total amount of Mexican wine imports reached 315 million US dollars in 2024. It is expected to continue to grow in the future. According to CRI analysis, the main sources of Mexican wine imports include Spain, Italy, France, Chile, Argentina and Germany. Spain is Mexico’s primary source of wine imports. The top three countries and regions for Mexico’s imported wine from 2021 to 2024 are Spain, Italy and France. The main companies exporting this product to Mexico are major European wine production and trading companies. The main importers of Mexican wine from 2021 to 2024 are local and foreign wine traders in Mexico.

Overall, Mexico’s wine production has increased year by year. According to CRI analysis, diversified consumer demand has led to the continuous expansion of Mexico’s wine import market, especially wines from Chile, Spain and Italy. In the future, as the size of the Mexican wine market grows, Mexican wine imports are expected to continue to rise.

CRI recommends that global wine producers and traders should conduct timely research on the Mexican market and prepare for the layout of the Mexican market.

Vietnam Edible Bird’s Nests Export Research Report

Edible bird’s nests are nests made of saliva secreted by swiftlets and their down feathers. They are also a precious tonic. Bird’s nests are rich in nutrients such as protein, amino acids, sialic acid, and minerals. Edible bird’s nests are mainly produced in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries. China also produces a small amount. Indonesia is the country with the largest production of edible bird’s nests in the world, accounting for more than half of the world’s total production.

The main consumer markets for edible bird’s nests include North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. According to CRI analysis, Asia Pacific is the largest market for edible bird’s nest consumption in the world, accounting for more than 90% of the market share. China is the largest consumer country, and its market demand is mainly driven by traditional nourishing culture and increased demand for health products.

North America (including the United States and Canada) is the second edible bird’s nest consumer market in the world. Edible bird’s nest consumption in the region is mainly driven by increased health awareness and the increase in the number of Asian immigrants. In addition, European countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany and France are also major consumer countries, and their consumers’ interest in edible bird’s nests is mainly due to its health benefits and demand for high-end food.

Vietnam is one of the world’s major edible bird’s nest producers and exporters. In recent years, Vietnam’s bird’s nest industry has shown a rapid development trend. According to CRI analysis, 42 of Vietnam’s 63 regions have companies engaged in bird’s nest farming. By the end of 2024, Vietnam has accumulated more than 22,000 bird’s nest houses, with an annual bird’s nest production of more than 150 tons, with a total value of more than US$600 million.

Vietnamese edible bird’s nest products include ready-to-eat bottled bird’s nest, refined bird’s nest, etc. The Vietnamese government is increasing its support for edible bird’s nest exports and helping companies expand overseas markets for Vietnamese edible bird’s nest products, especially high-demand markets such as China, the United States and Europe.

According to CRI data, the total export value of Vietnam’s edible bird’s nests exceeded US$6 million in 2023, and exceeded US$8 million in 2024. It is growing rapidly. According to CRI analysis, Vietnam’s edible bird’s nest export markets are spread across North America and the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is the largest export destination for Vietnam’s edible bird’s nest.

From 2021 to 2024, the main destinations for Vietnam’s edible bird’s nest exports are the United States, South Korea, China, etc. The companies that import bird’s nests from Vietnam are mainly some overseas traders. The exporters of Vietnamese edible bird’s nests are mainly local bird’s nest production and trading companies in Vietnam.

Overall, the production and export of Vietnamese edible bird’s nests have made significant progress in recent years. CRI expects that Vietnamese edible bird’s nests will gradually occupy an important position in the global bird’s nest market. As global consumers’ demand for healthy and high-end foods increases, the export of Vietnamese bird’s nests is expected to continue to grow. CRI recommends that companies interested in Vietnamese edible bird’s nests should investigate the Vietnamese edible bird’s nest industry as soon as possible and prepare for purchasing Vietnamese edible bird’s nests.

Milk powder is a powdered product made from fresh cow’s milk or goat’s milk by freezing or heating to remove almost all the water in the milk and then drying it. Depending on the processing technology and raw materials, milk powder can be divided into various types such as whole milk powder, skim milk powder, instant milk powder, infant formula milk powder, etc.

As an important dairy product, milk powder has a wide range of application scenarios, covering multiple fields such as food industry, household consumption, infant food, animal feed, etc. According to CRI analysis, in the food industry, milk powder is widely used in dairy products such as cheese and candy, baked foods such as bread, biscuits, cakes, and beverage foods such as milk tea. At the same time, household consumption is also one of the main application scenarios of milk powder. Milk powder can be used for drinking and nutritional supplements.

As a substitute for milk, milk powder is easier to store and transport, and is particularly suitable for specific groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and athletes. In addition, milk powder can also be used in animal feed to increase nutritional value and provide vitamins.

The world’s major milk powder producers are New Zealand, the European Union, the United States, Australia and Argentina. These countries and regions have dominated the global milk powder market with their advanced production technology and abundant milk sources. New Zealand is one of the most important milk powder producers in the world, especially known for the production of whole milk powder and skimmed milk powder. New Zealand’s milk powder production is mainly concentrated in large dairy companies such as Fonterra, and its products are highly competitive in the international market.

The world’s major milk powder consumers include China and Southeast Asia and other Asia-Pacific countries, the United States and Canada and other North American countries and the European Union. North American milk powder consumption is mainly concentrated in infant formula milk powder and functional milk powder. Europe has a high consumption of instant whole milk powder. According to CRI analysis, the Asia-Pacific region is the fastest growing region for milk powder consumption in the world, and milk powder consumption in Southeast Asia is mainly used for food processing and infant formula.

The demand for milk powder in Vietnam has continued to grow in recent years, mainly due to its population growth, the rise of the middle class and changes in consumer concepts. According to CRI analysis, Vietnam’s milk powder production is mainly concentrated in a few large companies, such as Vinamilk. Vinamilk is the largest dairy company in Vietnam, with an annual milk powder production capacity of more than 50,000 tons. However, due to the limited domestic raw milk production in Vietnam, it can only meet 30% of domestic demand, and the rest depends on imports.

Milk powder and liquid milk are Vietnam’s main imported dairy products. According to CRI data, Vietnam’s milk powder imports in 2023 reached US$457 million, and the cumulative import value of milk powder from January to November 2024 closed to US$315 million, and it is expected to continue to grow in the next few years.

According to CRI analysis, the main sources of Vietnamese milk powder imports include New Zealand, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Singapore, France, Belgium and Germany. Due to factors such as high cost-effectiveness of its products, New Zealand has become the largest source of Vietnamese milk powder imports, accounting for about 40% of the entire import market. The top three countries from 2021 to 2024 are New Zealand, the United States and Australia. The main companies exporting this product to Vietnam are Fonterra and other companies. The main importers of Vietnamese milk powder from 2021 to 2024 are mainly local Vietnamese companies such as VINAMILK.

Overall, Vietnam’s milk powder market is showing strong growth momentum with the demographic dividend, the rise of the middle class and rapid economic growth. However, due to the limited production of domestic dairy products in Vietnam, most of it still relies on imports. CRI predicts that Vietnam’s milk powder imports are expected to continue to grow in the next few years.

CRI recommends that global dairy companies should research the Vietnamese dairy market as early as possible to prepare for entering the Vietnamese milk powder market.

Vietnam Frozen Shrimp Export

Frozen Shrimp refer to shrimp and other aquatic products that are processed through advanced freezing technology, aiming to extend their shelf life and maintain the original quality of the product to meet the diversified needs of the market.

According to CRI analysis, Frozen Shrimp are an important part of the global seafood trade, and the main consumer markets include North America, Europe and Asia. The United States is one of the world’s largest consumers of Frozen Shrimp in the North American market, especially in supermarkets and the catering industry. In the Asian market, the demand for Frozen Shrimp in countries and regions such as China, Japan, and South Korea is also growing rapidly. In the future, with the accelerated pace of people’s lives and the pursuit of healthy diets, the market prospects for Frozen Shrimp will become more and more broad.

Vietnam has a long coastline and rich fishery resources, which provide sufficient raw materials for the production of frozen shrimp products. According to CRI analysis, Vietnam’s frozen shrimp product industry has formed a complete industrial chain, covering fishing, processing, packaging and export. Vietnam’s frozen shrimp production areas are mainly concentrated in coastal areas such as Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa. The export volume of Vietnam’s frozen shrimp has increased year by year and has become one of Vietnam’s important export aquatic products.

According to CRI data, Vietnam’s total frozen shrimp exports reached US$1.876 billion in 2023. In 2024, Vietnam’s frozen shrimp exports exceeded US$1.9 billion, and it is expected that Vietnam’s frozen shrimp exports will continue to grow in the next few years.

According to CRI analysis, Vietnam’s frozen shrimp export markets are spread across North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The United States is the largest export destination for Vietnamese frozen shrimp products. From 2021 to 2024, the main export destinations for Vietnamese frozen shrimp products are the United States, Japan, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Australia.

According to CRI analysis, the main companies importing frozen shrimp to Vietnam include MSEAFOOD CORPORATION, KYOKUYO CO LTD, MARUHA NICHIRO CORPORATION and other companies. Most of Vietnam’s frozen shrimp exporters are local Vietnamese frozen shrimp producers, and a small number are subsidiaries of international frozen shrimp producers and distributors in Vietnam. The main exporters of Vietnamese frozen shrimp include MINH PHU SEAFOOD CORP, STAPIMEX, CASES and other companies.

The production and export of Vietnamese frozen shrimp products have made significant progress in recent years and have become an important part of Vietnam’s aquatic product exports. With the increasing demand for healthy food among global consumers and the rich marine resources and perfect production capacity, CRI expects that Vietnam’s frozen shrimp exports will continue to grow.

CRI recommends that global aquatic product trading companies should conduct research on the Vietnamese market as soon as possible and prepare for early layout of the Vietnamese market.

Vietnam Sucrose Import

Sucrose is a widely used natural sugar primarily extracted from sugarcane or sugar beets. As one of the most common sugars globally, sucrose plays an important role across various industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and chemicals.

Advances in technology and an increasing focus on health are expected to further expand and deepen sucrose applications. CRI analyzes that sucrose is critical in the global food and beverage industry, where it is extensively used in soft drinks, juices, candies, pastries, ice creams, and other processed foods. In Vietnam, economic growth and rising per capita income are boosting food and beverage consumption, directly driving the growth of Vietnam’s sucrose market.

The major global producers of sucrose include Brazil, India, China, Australia, and Thailand, with Brazil leading as the largest producer and exporter due to significant production advantages, followed by India and China. In terms of demand, North America, Europe, and Asia are the major consuming regions, and rising economies in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, are seeing increasing sucrose market growth.

As a key economy in Southeast Asia, Vietnam’s demand for processed foods and beverages continues to grow with economic expansion and increased consumer income. This demand drives Vietnam’s sucrose imports. CRI highlights that Vietnam’s favorable labor costs and abundant land resources attract many international brands, such as Pepsi and Coca-Cola, to establish production bases there, indirectly fueling Vietnam’s sucrose market. However, due to limited domestic sucrose production, Vietnam relies on imports to meet its market needs.

CRI data shows that in 2023, Vietnam’s sucrose imports reached approximately USD 254 million, with expectations of sustained growth in the coming years. Key sucrose import sources for Vietnam include Australia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, with Australia as the largest source. From 2021 to 2024, the primary countries and regions exporting sucrose to Vietnam were Australia, Singapore, and Thailand. Major exporters to Vietnam include companies like Global Mind Agriculture Pte Ltd, Wilmar Sugar Pte Ltd, and Mitr Lao Sugar Co Ltd. Major importers during this period include Thanh Thanh Cong – Bien Hoa Joint Stock Company, Bien Hoa Consumer Joint Stock Company, and BSJC.

Overall, Vietnam’s sucrose market shows a steady growth trend. With the development of Vietnam’s food and beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, the sucrose market is expected to continue expanding. However, given the limited capacity for increased local sucrose production, Vietnam would remain dependent on imports to meet its sucrose demand in the years ahead.

Indonesia Rice Industry

Rice production in Indonesia is an important part of the national economy. Indonesia is the third largest rice producer in the world. It is also a world-renowned net importer of rice. Although Indonesia is a major rice producer, it is also one of the world’s largest per capita rice consumers. Indonesians consume approximately 140 kilograms of rice per person per year. Coupled with population growth and a lack of high-tech agriculture, the rice produced in the country cannot meet the needs of the local population.

According to CRI, Indonesia’s rice production in 2022 was about 35.05 million tons, and domestic consumption was 35.98 million tons. In 2023, rice production was 34.33 million tons, which still could not meet the domestic demand for rice in Indonesia. According to CRI forecast, due to the extreme hot weather and slow imports, rice stocks in Indonesia will continue to decline.

Indonesia is a net importer of rice, meaning it buys more rice from other countries than it sells. The country’s reliance on imported rice is expected to increase.

The Indonesian government has said that the imports are to meet domestic demand in the event of a low farmer’s harvest. There is also a need to ensure stockpile security.

In 2023, Indonesia approved a rice import quota of 3.8 million tons, but only 2.74 million tons were actually imported; this included more than 1 million tons of rice from Vietnam. At the beginning of 2024, the Indonesian government also approved an import quota of 2 million tons of rice for 2024, plus 1.06 million tons of unused quota for 2023. CRI expects that in 2024, Indonesia will need to purchase 3.06 million tons of rice.

According to statistics, at the beginning of February 2024, the average export price of 5% broken rice from Thailand was the highest in the world at US$653 per ton, from Vietnam at US$639 per ton, and from Pakistan at US$637 per ton.

Indonesia’s target for 2024 is to produce 55.42 million tons of domestically produced rice, a figure higher than the 2023 target of 54.5 million tons. Nonetheless, the Indonesian government will still import rice in 2024, with an estimated import volume of more than 3 million tons.

The price of rice in Indonesia is also rising as Indonesian rice stocks are declining. In 2024, the approximate wholesale price range for Indonesian rice is between $0.56 and $1.47 per kilogram, or between $0.25 and $0.66 per pound. The import price per kilogram of rice into Indonesia has been quite volatile over the past five years. In 2017, the price was USD 0.92, followed by a sharp decline to USD 0.46 in 2018. This was followed by a significant increase to USD 2.45 in 2019, and a further increase to USD 2.76 in 2020. The price then drops to USD 0.80 in 2021, before settling at USD 0.66 in 2022. In 2023, the price of rice will remain at $0.66, and we predict that it will increase slightly to $0.68 in 2024.

One of the key challenges in the Indonesian rice market is to achieve self-sufficiency in rice production. The country is highly dependent on rice imports, making it vulnerable to fluctuations in international prices and supply disruptions. Addressing issues such as land availability, modernizing farming practices and improving infrastructure are critical to increasing domestic rice production.

The Indonesian provinces that produce the most rice are South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and South Sulawesi. Given Indonesia’s large rice consuming population and the risks of being a rice importer when food prices rise, Indonesia has made achieving rice self-sufficiency a top priority. In fact, the country aims to become a rice exporter. According to CRI, from 2024 to 2033, Indonesia will import more and more rice.

Bottled water, packaged drinking water typically sold in plastic or glass bottles, is categorized into two types in Malaysia: Natural Mineral Water (NMW) and Drinking Water (DW).

Malaysia is blessed with abundant water resources, which have been fundamental to the country’s socio-economic development over the past decades. As a water-rich nation, Malaysia primarily sources its water from surface water (80.8%), including rivers and dams (17.9%), while groundwater accounts for only 1.2%. Malaysia’s tropical climate with high rainfall ensures a constant supply of rainwater, and most households have access to affordable municipal tap water. However, the country has recently experienced a shift in its water supply situation, transitioning from relative abundance to scarcity. Factors such as population growth, urbanization, industrialization, and expanded irrigated agriculture have led to rapidly increasing demands and pressures on water resources, along with heightened water pollution.

Malaysia boasts the highest per capita consumption of bottled water among developing countries, with each Malaysian consuming just under 150 liters annually. Malaysians prefer bottled water for its convenience and often use it as a healthier alternative to sugary drinks. Additionally, the choice to consume bottled water may stem from a general distrust of the quality of municipal tap water.

As the fourth-largest economy in Southeast Asia, Malaysia experienced impressive economic growth of 8.7% in 2022. The country’s population is nearly 32.7 million, with a GDP per capita of $12,400, placing it in the upper-middle-income category. Consumption and international trade are vital components of Malaysia’s GDP, with total exports and imports reaching RM2.85 trillion (approximately $627 billion) in 2022, marking the second consecutive year surpassing the 2 trillion-ringgit threshold.

From 2018 to 2022, as analyzed by CRI, the annual sales revenue of bottled water in Malaysia displayed a fluctuating pattern, experiencing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 0.03% during this period. In recent years, the size of Malaysia’s bottled water market has remained relatively stable. The market experienced a decline in sales revenue in 2020, primarily due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with sales revenue falling by 10.25%. Subsequently, in 2021 and 2022, the sales revenue of bottled water in the Malaysian market gradually rebounded, reaching approximately $300 million in 2022. CRI’s analysis suggests that as the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic diminishes, coupled with growing health consciousness and income levels, Malaysia’s bottled water industry will continue to experience growth in the future.

CRI anticipates that the Malaysian bottled water market will expand to a size of US$522 million by 2032, registering a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of approximately 5.7% from 2023 to 2032.

Thailand Beer Industry

For decades, burdensome liquor laws allowed only a few large breweries to dominate the market and barred small-scale newcomers from entering. 2022 In early November, Thailand began implementing new regulations for the liquor industry, which lowered the barriers to entry for small businesses.

Under the original regulations, in order to obtain a brewing license, a brewery had to have a minimum capital of 10 million baht (US$ 286,000) and annual beer production of 100,000 to 1 million liters, both of which were eliminated under the new regulations. The implementation of the new regulations will help other companies enter the market and promote diversity.

The Thai beer market is oligopolistic, consisting of several major players, namely Boon Rawd Brewery Co., Ltd. The first and largest brewery established in 1933, produces Singha, Leo, U Beer, etc. and holds 55-60% of the market. Thai Breweries is the second largest brewer with major brands including Chang, Archa and Federbrau with 35-40% of the market. TAPB, the producer of Heineken, Tiger and Cheers, has 4-5% of the market. The remaining 0.5-1% are Thai craft and imported beers.

In the past, the Thai beer market has grown steadily, but in recent years it has grown due to innovations by Thai beer companies such as Singha and Chang to attract new customers. Today, ultra-premium beer has a market share of less than 1%, but CRI expects its share to rise rapidly as the new generation of consumers likes to try and taste new things, which is in line with the trend in the global beer market.

In 2021, Thailand exported $106 million of beer, making it the world’s 19th largest beer exporter. In the same year, beer was Thailand’s 309th largest export product. The main destinations for Thai beer exports are Myanmar (US$40 million), the United Arab Emirates (US$18 million), Cambodia (US$11.5 million), the United Kingdom (US$4.55 million), and Israel (US$3.71 million).

The fastest-growing markets for Thai beer exports from 2020 to 2021 were Myanmar (US$9.54 million), the United Kingdom (US$1.46 million), and the United States (US$1.46 million). （The fastest growing markets for Thai beer exports from 2020 to 2021 are Myanmar ($9.54 million), the UK ($1.46 million) and the US ($1.46 million).

CRI expects Thailand’s beer industry to experience rapid growth from 2023-2032 as the negative impacts of COVID-19 on the economy have largely been eliminated, and there are significant market opportunities for global investors. CRI expects export value of Thailand’s beer to reach US$ 300 million by 2032, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8% from 2023 to 2032.

Thailand Rice Industry

In Thailand, seasonal rainfall occurs in the form of the southwest monsoon, which usually begins its heaviest rainfall pattern in June and continues through September. The germination and growth of Thai rice is largely dependent on these seasonal rains. Seasonal rains favor early planting and enhance rice yields.

In 2022, Thailand exported 7.69 million tons of rice, exceeding the Ministry of Commerce’s target of 7.5 million tons. Exports rose 25.77 percent from 6.12 million tons in 2021, while the value in Thai baht terms increased 28.48 percent to 138.45 billion baht ($4.02 billion). 2022 saw Thailand become the world’s second-largest rice exporter after India, which exported 21.9 million tons.

Iraq is the largest importer of Thai rice, buying 1.6 million tons last year, up 458 percent from a year earlier. South Africa came in second, importing 775,000 tons (down 2.26 percent), followed by China at 750,000 tons (up 18.8 percent), the United States at 650,000 tons (up 13.2 percent) and Benin at 321,000 tons (down 15.3 percent). According to CRI’s analysis, in 2022, Thailand’s total rice production of nearly 18.86 million tons meets demand for domestic consumption, processing, use in poultry and livestock feed, and export.

In terms of price, the average price of Thai rice exports increased by 2.16 percent year-on-year to $521.88 per ton in 2022. The price of broken 5% white rice remained high on the world market, rising to US$523 per ton on January 18 from US$465 per ton in mid-December.

The baht weakens again in 2023. The outlook for the Thai baht is critical for the country’s rice exports this year. If the baht continues to weaken, Thai rice exports will be competitive in the world market.

A weaker baht, rising domestic consumption stocks in India and Vietnam, and growing demand from the Middle East are key factors helping to drive Thai rice exports. CRI expects the exports volume of Thailand’s rice to reach 9.01 million tons in 2032, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6 percent over the 2023-2032 period.
